Who we are
Our Past:
Beginning. . .
In 1915, because
of the need for
a Baptist Church
in Jenks, a
group of people,
under the
leadership of
the Lord, met
together to form
the First
Missionary
Baptist Church
of Jenks. The
first service
was held the
afternoon of
March 14, 1915
at the Jenks
High School.
Twelve charter
members were
present. In
1919 a new
building was
started but a
tornado
destroyed it
before its
completion.
"Jenks Day" was
declared by a
number of Tulsa
Baptist Churches
and a special
offering was
taken to be used
in rebuilding
the church.
At this time
there were 22
members. By
1932, the
membership had
grown to 158,
and by 1973 the
membership had
grown to 537.
The membership
has continued to
grow.
Our Present:
Belonging. . .
Sitting just
across from
Jenks High
School, First
Baptist has
experienced
unbelievable
growth this past
year. With a
strong ministry
to children,
youth and young
adults and
Senior adults
complimented by
an emphasis on
developing
lifestyle
worshippers and
lifelong
disciples, First
Baptist is set
for an exciting
future.
Our Future:
Becoming. . .
Two words
describe the
future of First
Baptist: Great
Expectations!
The formation of
our future must
be guided by a
commitment to
God's Word and
by the will to
change the world
one heart and
one family at a
time. We
recently
purchased 27
acres at
116th and Elm in
Jenks.
Through the
resources God
provided, the
land was paid
for in one year. Pray for
us as we
seek to sell our
current
facilities and
build on the new
property, and as
we continue to grow
and reach Jenks
and southwest
Tulsa for the
glory of God.
